Quick Fixes: Understanding Your ONT Lights and Troubleshooting Tips

Oct 31, 2025

The Optical Network Terminal (ONT) is the device that connects your home to Norwood Light Broadband’s fiber-optic network. Keeping an eye on its lights is the fastest way to troubleshoot any internet or phone issues!

Use this quick guide to understand what the lights on your ONT mean and the first steps you should take if something isn’t working correctly.

Status Light What It Means
POWER, BROADBAND, SERVICE, ETHERNET Solid Green Everything is running normally
Flashing Green The device is attempting to connect
Solid Red Something may be wrong with the connection
Off The device is not connected or powered on
PHONE Solid Green There is a call in progress
Off Your phone is ready to use (no call in progress)

The First Step: How to Reboot Your ONT

If you are experiencing any issues with your ONT, the first and most effective step is to reboot the device. This often clears connection problems without needing a call to support.

You can reboot your ONT using either of these simple methods:

  • Cable Method: Remove the power cable from the back of the ONT, wait for 10 seconds, and then plug it back in.
  • Switch Method: If your ONT has a separate power source switch, turn the power source off, wait for 10 seconds, and then switch it back on.
