Legacy Cable TV
& HFC Transition

We’re Upgrading Norwood to Fiber And Transitioning Away From Legacy Systems Your timeline, your choices, and all the support you need, in one place.

Norwood Light & Broadband is upgrading the entire town to Fiber to the Home (FTTH). This upgrade significantly improves speed, reliability, and overall performance for internet and modern TV alternatives.

As part of this modernization effort, we will be retiring both our legacy cable TV system and our older HFC (Hybrid Fiber-Coax) internet system. These platforms rely on outdated equipment that manufacturers no longer support and cannot deliver the performance customers need today.

We understand that change can feel overwhelming. This page explains what’s happening, when it’s happening, and exactly what you need to do, with friendly support from our local team every step of the way.

What’s Changing?

Norwood Light & Broadband is beginning the phased retirement of our legacy cable TV system and our HFC (Hybrid Fiber-Coax) internet network.

  1. Legacy Cable TV
Our traditional cable TV platform relies on equipment and software that are no longer supported by vendors. Programming fees and broadcaster rate increases have also made cable TV increasingly difficult to sustain. The decision to exit video reflects the TV industry’s shift to streaming and our commitment to providing cost-effective, reliable services.
  2. HFC Internet System
Our older HFC network cannot provide the speed, reliability, or symmetrical performance today’s homes require. As fiber becomes the industry standard, providers nationwide are retiring HFC. Fiber delivers better performance with fewer outages.

As we complete the Fiber to the Home upgrade across Norwood, both systems will be retired in a carefully planned, phased approach. Every customer will receive clear communication and advance notice before anything changes.

Why a Phased Approach?

We are not retiring cable TV or HFC internet for everyone at the same time.

A phased approach allows us to give each household one-on-one support, provide flexible scheduling, avoid overwhelming technicians, and ensure a smooth transition.

If You Received a Letter With a June 3rd End Date:

If you received a mailed notice that your cable TV service and/or HFC internet will end on June 3rd, your household is part of the first transition group.

1. Decide which fiber internet speed is right for your household.

When we install fiber at your home, you’ll choose one of our new high-speed tiers:

  • 1 Gig Elite
  • 2 Gig Ultimate
  • 3 Gig Quantum

Visit our broadband page to compare speeds, device usage, and recommendations for your home.

2. Choose your new TV provider (if you currently subscribe to cable TV).

3. We’ll help you get set up.
Our local team can help you select a provider, install streaming apps (if needed), show you how to use the new features, and make sure everything feels familiar.

4. We’ll install your new Gig-speed Fiber Internet.
During your appointment, technicians will:

  • Install your fiber equipment
  • Optimize your Wi-Fi for TV viewing and work-from-home
  • Connect your streaming devices
  • Confirm everything works perfectly
  • Answer any questions

5. We’ll collect any old HFC or cable TV equipment during your visit.
No need to return anything in advance.

6. Need help or not sure which package to choose?
Call us anytime at 781-948-1150.

If You Did Not Receive a Letter:

You are not part of this transition phase yet. Your cable TV and/or HFC internet service will continue for now, and no action is required.

However, many customers are choosing to upgrade early because:

  • Fiber internet is significantly faster and more reliable than HFC
  • Fiber includes symmetrical upload speeds (great for streaming, gaming, work-from-home, security cameras, etc.)
  • You can choose from our three new fiber tiers: 1 Gig Elite, 2 Gig Ultimate, 3 Gig Quantum
  • Streaming TV offers larger on-demand libraries and easy-to-use features
  • Switching early lets you upgrade on your own timeline

If you’d like to upgrade now, we’re happy to help you:

      • Select the right fiber internet speed
      • Explore TV streaming options
      • Set up your new apps and devices
      • Schedule your fiber installation
      • Collect any old equipment during your appointment
