iPhone and iPad Internet Speed Specifications

Important Considerations

Theoretical vs. real-world speeds: The “Maximum speeds” listed in the table are theoretical maximums for the underlying networking standard. The actual speeds you experience are often much lower and are affected by:

  • Signal strength and interference: The further you are from your router or cell tower, the slower your connection will be.
  • Network congestion: During peak hours or in crowded areas, your network’s total capacity is split among more users, which reduces speeds.
  • Router or ISP limitations: The speed of your Wi-Fi router or your internet plan may be the bottleneck. An iPhone 15 Pro Max may support Wi-Fi 6E, but if your router only supports Wi-Fi 5, that is the maximum speed you’ll get.

The biggest determinant of speed: The most significant factors for your internet performance will be your internet service provider (ISP) and your network environment—not your iPhone’s hardware. For example, a 5G network can potentially deliver gigabit-level speeds, but the actual speed depends on the network and how your carrier has implemented it.
